Former Pakistan captain Rashid Latif believes that Babar Azam will regain his best form now that he has stepped down as the white-ball captain of the team. Babar made this decision to focus on his individual performance, aiming to enhance his game without the added pressure of leadership.
Latif shared his thoughts on social media, noting that Babar understood late but rightly in the end. He emphasized that key players who once pushed Babar to perform, like Mohammad Amir and Imad Wasim, are no longer on the team, allowing Babar to flourish.
Under Babar’s captaincy, which began in 2019, Pakistan has struggled in major tournaments, failing to secure any titles. Most recently, the team was eliminated from the Asia Cup and did not advance past the group stages in the ODI World Cup. In his statement on X, Babar reflected on his time as captain and expressed gratitude for the opportunity to lead. He mentioned that resigning would enable him to concentrate on his personal growth and performance while enjoying cricket again.
Babar made his Test debut in 2016, participating in 54 matches and scoring 3,962 runs. He has also played 117 ODIs, accumulating 5,729 runs, and has scored 4,145 runs in 123 T20Is since 2016.
