To promote innovation and technological advancements in defense, the Ministry of Electronics and IT (MeitY) and the Military College of Telecommunications Engineering (MCTE) have formalized their partnership. On Friday, MeitY’s research and development organizations presented several indigenously developed products to MCTE, emphasizing the nation’s commitment to self-reliance in defense capabilities.

S. Krishnan, Secretary of MeitY, highlighted the importance of providing the Armed Forces with indigenous solutions. He praised the initiative to establish a CDAC Centre of Excellence at MCTE, which aims to enhance collaborative research and development in critical fields such as artificial intelligence, quantum computing, chip design, and 5G technologies.

This partnership is expected to speed up the integration of advanced technologies to address the Indian Army’s evolving needs and challenges. It will also create a supportive environment for micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) through an incubation ecosystem that encourages the exchange of ideas and technology.

Lt Gen K.H. Gawas, Commandant of MCTE, emphasized the need for collaboration between the Army and researchers to understand battlefield requirements. He is optimistic that this partnership will lead to significant innovations in defense.

Additionally, the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) and IIT Delhi have developed lightweight bulletproof jackets, known as ABHED, which provide 360-degree protection using advanced materials.
