The 20th edition of the India-US Joint Military Exercise, Yudh Abhyas 2024, has begun at the Foreign Training Node, Mahajan Field Firing Ranges in Rajasthan. Running from September 9 to September 22, this annual exercise focuses on enhancing defense cooperation between the two nations.
The exercise brings together around 600 troops from the Indian Army, including a battalion from the RAJPUT Regiment, and personnel from the 1-24 Battalion of the US 11th Airborne Division based in Alaska. The goal is to improve interoperability and joint capabilities in counterterrorism operations, particularly in subconventional scenarios under Chapter VII of the United Nations Charter.
Throughout the 14-day exercise, both Indian and US troops will participate in various tactical drills, including joint responses to terrorist actions, combined planning, and field training exercises designed to simulate real-world counter-terrorism missions.
Since its inception in 2004, Exercise Yudh Abhyas has been held annually, alternating between India and the United States. The aim is to strengthen the strategic partnership and operational readiness of both forces.
