Inspector General of Police (IGP) Kashmir, VK Birdi, led a key meeting to review security and election preparations for the upcoming assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir. The meeting, held at the range police headquarters in Anantnag, included DIG SKR Anantnag Javid Iqbal Matoo and senior officers from CRPF, BSF, and ITBP.
The discussion focused on security arrangements for the first phase of elections in South Kashmir. DIG SKR Anantnag provided a briefing on the security setup, including the deployment of CAPF companies, the locations of polling booths and strong rooms, and logistical arrangements for the security forces. Special measures were emphasized for the safety of polling booths and strong rooms.
IGP Birdi stressed the need for close coordination among security agencies and proactive measures to ensure a smooth electoral process. Vigilance against anti-national elements and the safe movement of security forces on National Highways were also highlighted.
IGP Birdi inspected CAPF camping sites in Anantnag and issued immediate directions to improve facilities for officers and jawans. The review concluded with a detailed plan to ensure peaceful elections. The Jammu and Kashmir assembly elections are scheduled for September 18, September 25, and October 1, with the vote count on October 8. These elections will be the first since the abrogation of Article 370 and will cover 90 constituencies, including seats reserved for SCs and STs.
