PM Modi spoke at the opening of the International Solar Festival 2024 today, stressing the need to democratize solar technology and manufacturing to assist developing nations. The festival, hosted by the International Solar Alliance (ISA), aims to promote solar power as a cornerstone for a sustainable and carbon-neutral future.

In his virtual address, PM Modi highlighted the need to correct the global imbalance in green energy investments. He said, ‘We must address the disparity in green energy investments to facilitate an energy transition. Solar technology should be made accessible to developing countries. Empowering the least developed nations, small island states, and including marginalized communities, women, and youth is crucial.’

India’s Minister of New and Renewable Energy, Pralhad Joshi, reaffirmed India’s dedication to global clean energy efforts, noting, ‘As a founding ISA member, India is committed to supporting the Global South in achieving a sustainable future.’

Ajay Mathur, ISA Director General, emphasized the festival’s role in promoting solar energy worldwide, while Bhutan’s Prime Minister Tshering Tobgay and Mauritius’ PM Pravind Jugnauth praised the ISA’s impact in their countries. The two-day festival features keynote sessions, technical discussions, and cultural performances, aiming to boost global cooperation and accelerate the clean energy transition.
