Nicole Kidman, renowned for taking on bold and varied roles, has revealed her concerns about her latest film, Babygirl. She described it as more provocative and revealing than any of her previous work. In a recent interview, Nicole admitted feeling uneasy about the film’s upcoming premiere at the Venice Film Festival.
In Babygirl, Nicole plays a successful businesswoman who appears to have a perfect life with her husband, portrayed by Antonio Banderas. Her world changes dramatically with the arrival of a new intern, played by Harris Dickinson. Nicole’s character becomes entangled in a passionate and risky affair with the young intern, leading to a series of intense and emotional events.
Nicole shared that the role left her feeling very exposed, both as an actress and personally. The emotional depth of the scenes often felt overwhelming, and she admitted that there were times she questioned continuing with the filming. She described the experience as confronting and mentioned needing to put her protection back on after particularly tough scenes.
Nicole and director Halina Reijn supported each other throughout the process. Reflecting on the film, Nicole found it surreal that something so intimate, which she likened to a home video, would be shown to a global audience. She acknowledged the film’s unique and unconventional nature, noting, this is not something that the world normally sees.
