Tamil Nadu Police have detained a man, Govardhan, for throwing beer bottles at the DMK headquarters, Anna Arivalayam, in Teynampet, Chennai, on Monday morning. Govardhan, who arrived on a two-wheeler, reportedly threw the bottles into the DMK office. He is currently being questioned at the Teynampet police station, with authorities trying to determine his motives.
The police are investigating whether there was a political motive behind the incident, though Govardhan’s political affiliations remain unclear. DMK Tamil Nadu Organising Secretary R.S. Bharathi described the event as unfortunate and urged the police to uncover the truth.
The incident comes in the wake of heightened political tensions in Tamil Nadu following the murder of Dalit activist and BSP President K. Armstrong on July 5. Armstrong was killed in Perambur, and six individuals, including Ponnai Balu, have been arrested in connection with the case. Tamil Nadu’s political scene, marked by frequent clashes between the DMK and AIADMK, has become increasingly volatile.
