DY Patil Stadium replaces Chinnaswamy for World Cup

New Host Unveiled

New Delhi

The International Cricket Council (ICC) on Friday announced that Navi Mumbai’s DY Patil Stadium will replace Bengaluru’s M. Chinnaswamy Stadium as one of the five venues for the ICC Women’s ODI World Cup 2025. The shift was required after the Karnataka State Cricket Association failed to secure timely police approvals following the crowd stampede during Royal Challengers Bengaluru’s IPL victory celebrations earlier this year.

The DY Patil Stadium will now host up to five games, including three league matches, a semifinal, and possibly the grand final. The World Cup schedule remains unchanged, running from September 30 to November 2. Other confirmed venues include Guwahati’s ACA Stadium, Indore’s Holkar Stadium, Visakhapatnam’s ACA-VDCA Stadium, and Colombo’s R. Premadasa Stadium.

ICC Chairman Jay Shah welcomed the development, saying Navi Mumbai has become a strong hub for women’s cricket. He praised the support the stadium has drawn during international fixtures and the Women’s Premier League, noting that such energy would inspire both players and fans during the World Cup.

“This tournament is a landmark moment for women’s cricket. The adjusted venue list ensures world-class facilities and promises a memorable event that will inspire new generations,” Shah said in the ICC release.

The World Cup will open with India playing co-host Sri Lanka in Guwahati on September 30. The first semifinal is scheduled in Guwahati or Colombo on October 29, the second semifinal in Navi Mumbai on October 30, and the final either in Colombo or Navi Mumbai on November 2.
