Continuous rainfall across the state has significantly raised water levels in the Kabini reservoir near Bichchanahalli, HD Kote taluk. Due to the inflow of a substantial amount of water from Annekatte, authorities have advised residents along the river to relocate to safer areas.
In Kerala’s Wayanad district, heavy rains over the past four days have contributed to the Kabini reservoir nearing its full capacity of 84 feet. As a precautionary measure, authorities have initiated the release of over 50 thousand cusecs of water into the Kapila river. Consequently, bridges connecting Chekkur village to K Beltur village and Tumbuso bridge in HD Kote taluk have been submerged. The district administration has issued warnings for villagers to evacuate to safer places. Additionally, the popular bathing spot near Dakshina Kashi Nanjangud is completely submerged, with devotees cautioned against accessing the river for rituals.
The Krishna Raja Sagara (KRS) reservoir, crucial for the region and built on the Kaveri River, has also seen a significant rise in water levels. With an intake of 36,772 cusecs of water, the current water level stands at 113 feet, just 13 feet shy of its maximum capacity of 124 feet.
HD Kote Congress MLA Anil Chikkamadu has indicated that officials are preparing to request relief assistance from Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar once the legislative session concludes.
