Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Russian President Vladimir Putin visited the Atom Pavilion complex of the Russian State Atomic Energy Corporation Rosatom in Moscow on Tuesday. The complex showcases Russia’s latest advancements in atomic energy technology, with Rosatom Director General Alexey Likhachev guiding them through the exhibition.
During the visit, discussions centered on plans to collaborate on constructing six high-power nuclear units as part of a new project, alongside the development of low-power nuclear plants in India. The Atom Pavilion, completed in 2023, features a unique architectural design spread across seven floors, including three underground levels.
The partnership between India’s Department of Atomic Energy (DAE) and Rosatom dates back to December 2014, marked by the signing of the ‘Strategic Vision’ agreement during Putin’s visit to India. This agreement paved the way for joint initiatives like the Kudankulam Nuclear Power Plant (KNPP), where Rosatom ly installed steam generators using innovative methods.
Further strengthening ties, Rosatom and India are exploring projects such as the experimental demonstration energy complex (EDEC) in Seversk, Tomsk Region, aimed at advancing nuclear technology applications. Likhachev highlighted Rosatom’s readiness to expand cooperation with India across various nuclear energy domains, including non-energy applications and the nuclear fuel cycle.
