Parking System Troubles Persist In Twin Cities Despite Smart City Project Efforts

Efforts under the Smart City project to alleviate parking issues in the twin cities have faced setbacks due to inadequate information for motorists, resulting in underutilization of the newly constructed Puzzle parking lot at Indira Glass House. The lot, costing Rs 4.59 crore, was intended to ease parking congestion near Chennamma Circle and the old bus stand, serving visitors to the Indira Glass House and Mahatma Gandhi Garden. However, a lack of signage and clear information has left the facility largely unused.

Management of the parking lot was entrusted to Adarsh Enterprises in March 2023, with an initial one-year contract extended due to logistical reasons during the recent Lok Sabha elections. Some residents suggest relocating the Fazal parking facility from the Indira Glass House area to more densely populated parts like Shah Bazar, Dajiban town, Koppikara road, railway station, and market areas to better address the region’s parking challenges.
