Local villagers in Ramohalli have voiced strong opposition against the Bangalore Development Authority’s (BDA) decision to resume land acquisition for the expansion of the Kempegowda settlement. The BDA had previously acquired land for the development, which is currently underway, but has now announced plans to acquire additional abandoned local land.
Under the leadership of Ramohalli Panchayat President BH Prabhu, hundreds of villagers gathered near Archaka’s barangay to formally file a petition against the proposed land acquisition. They expressed dissatisfaction that a team of BDA officials, supposed to visit Rchakar barangay on Tuesday, diverted to Kannalli and Kanaminike villages following hints of the impending protest.
Prabhu highlighted concerns about the delay in development on land already acquired from farmers and alleged discrepancies in compensations owed to them. He criticized the BDA’s decision under case number 58/2024 to acquire previously abandoned land, currently occupied by farmers and the economically disadvantaged, accusing some of profiting from these transactions at the villagers’ expense.
Acting Abhiyantar Ashok Bagi also condemned what he termed as anti-farmer activities, asserting that hundreds of farmers were being unfairly impacted by the BDA’s actions.
Local leaders including Ramohalli Gram Panchayat Member B.L. Nagaraj, Sulikere Gram Panchayat Member Ramachandra, and numerous villagers such were present.
