The Customs agency announced on Friday that more than 2,000 grams of cocaine valued at Rs 21 crore had been taken from an airline passenger who had come from Ghana.
The intelligence officials at this international airport intercepted the woman, who came on June 26 from the West African nation.
The drugs were discovered to be in her possession during questioning; they were hidden in her luggage and shoes, according to a statement from the Principal Commissioner of Customs at Chennai International Airport, R Srinivasa Naik.
Under the applicable provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, 1985, 2,095 grams of cocaine valued at Rs 21 crore were taken from the woman.
She was taken into custody and is being held at Puzhal’s Central Prison.
