Since last night, heavy rain has flooded many areas of the city. The Indrani river canals are overflowing, resulting in artificial dams in some places.
In Kirti Nagar First Cross, Sagri Ward, a house was damaged by a fallen tree. The overflowing Indrani river canals have caused artificial flooding in coconut plantations at Gundibailu. Nearby in Mathadabettu area, water has entered the premises of several houses near the Udupi city bus stand. A fire broke out in the parking area of Sri Krishna Mutt, prompting the fire brigade to evacuate residents to safety.
The Meteorological Center forecasts cold winds in coastal districts until June 29, blowing at speeds of 35 to 45 km per hour. Fishermen have been warned against venturing into the rough seas due to strong winds.
Additionally, high waves are expected along the coastal shores of Dakshina Kannada, Udupi, and Uttara Kannada districts, posing a risk of shoreline impact. Coastal residents are advised to refrain from activities near the sea, and fishing boats have been cautioned against sea ventures to prevent potential sea erosion.
In the district, approximately 102 electricity poles belonging to the MESCOM department have fallen due to the heavy rain, causing damage. Eight transformers and 1.6 km of power lines were also affected, resulting in an estimated loss of Rs 17.8 lakh. MESCOM officials have reported power outages in several areas and are currently engaged in repair efforts.
