A red alert has been issued by the Meteorological Department for Thursday due to heavy rains persisting in the district over the past three days. As a result, primary and high schools in the district will remain closed on Thursday.

The continuous rainfall has filled rivers and led to flooding in many low-lying areas, particularly causing concern in riverside communities. In Bantwala, the Netravathi river has risen to 5.9 meters, resulting in property damage in various locations.

In Bantwala Taluk, landslides have damaged houses, agricultural land, and public property. For instance, a tree fell on the residence of Poovakka in Gandhi Nagar, Kedila village, damaging cement seats and the house compound. Similarly, the compound of Netla Nitileshwar temple’s nearby house was also affected.

Further incidents include a tree falling on Netla Dhananjaya Gatti’s residence in Goltamajalu village, causing damage to the house compound. In Narikombu village’s Manimajalu area, soil from a hillside near Ramachandra Gowda’s house slid, impacting a toilet pit. Meanwhile, water accumulation in Marlimaru village’s paddy fields has damaged agricultural areas.

In urban areas like Jappinamogaru, Dompadabali paddy fields and low-lying areas have experienced flooding, with reports of water entering houses. Locals have raised concerns about inadequate drainage systems in these flood-prone areas, likening the layout to paddy fields during heavy rainfall.
