Lok Sabha MP Gurmeet Singh Meet Hayer from Sangrur accused the BJP-led Central government of orchestrating a political conspiracy to harm Punjab’s financial interests. He stated his intention to address the withholding of Rs 7,000 crore in Rural Development Fund and Mandi Development Fund. Additionally, Hayer criticized the Centre for allegedly withholding funds earmarked for Punjab under schemes like the National Health Mission and Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan.

Speaking to the media, Hayer vowed to continue advocating for Punjab until justice is served. He expressed concern over what he sees as the BJP’s departure from democratic norms, citing their move to prevent the opposition from holding the deputy speaker position in Lok Sabha.

Hayer emphasized the importance of safeguarding democratic traditions, stating that opposition parties are committed to contesting the election of the Speaker to uphold these norms. He highlighted his mandate from Punjab voters to protect the state’s interests and to oppose any actions by the Centre that could harm Punjab.

In concluding his remarks, Hayer underscored the role of opposition parties in defending the constitution and democracy, noting the positive response from Indian voters in the recent general elections.
