BBMP Promotes Miyawaki Forests To Counter Urbanization’s Impact

Must read

Bengaluru’s urban sprawl has brought significant challenges, from declining groundwater levels to escalating air pollution, exacerbated by the proliferation of buildings at the expense of green spaces. In a proactive move to address these issues, the Bangalore Bruhat Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) has embraced Miyawaki Forests, inspired by a Japanese methodology celebrated for rejuvenating urban environments.

Located prominently at Royal Park Residency in JP Nagar, the Miyawaki Forest spans half an acre and boasts over 1200 native plant species. With an investment of 12 lakhs, this initiative not only aims to beautify the landscape but also to foster biodiversity and environmental consciousness among residents.

BBMP highlights the tangible benefits of Miyawaki Forests, including replenishing groundwater levels and mitigating air pollution, particularly crucial during Bengaluru’s challenging summer seasons marked by water shortages and poor air quality. Already, the establishment of three Miyawaki Forests in JP Nagar has garnered positive feedback, prompting calls for expanding similar initiatives citywide.
