Deputy Chief Minister and Bengaluru Development Minister DK Shivakumar has ordered an audit of the city’s gaming zones following the tragic fire disaster in Rajkot on May 25, which claimed 27 lives.
In response to this directive, the Greater Bangalore Municipal Corporation (BBMP) conducted inspections and subsequently shut down eight gaming zones on Monday due to inadequate safety measures and lack of licenses from the fire department.
The audit teams examined 29 gaming zones across Bengaluru and discovered that eight of them lacked the necessary no-objection certificates (NOCs). Yelahanka, known for its numerous malls, recorded the highest number of violations, with six gaming zones found to be non-compliant. Among those closed were Fun City at RMZ Galleria, Fun City at Mall of Asia, Fun Unlimited at Elements Mall, Fun City, and Amoeba at Bharatiya City Mall.
A BBMP official stated, we have suspended operations for now. We will allow them to resume if they adhere to safety measures and obtain NOCs from the relevant agencies.
The stringent measures aim to prevent incidents similar to the Rajkot tragedy and ensure the safety of visitors in Bengaluru’s gaming zones. The BBMP’s proactive approach highlights the importance of regulatory compliance and public safety in recreational facilities.
