On Thursday, the Congress party renewed its call for a Supreme Court-supervised investigation into the NEET exam controversy, highlighting that public anger over the issue will resonate in Parliament.

The opposition party also demanded the removal of the National Testing Agency (NTA) Director General, accusing the BJP government of being irresponsible and insensitive about the need for a NEET exam inquiry. We demand a Supreme Court-monitored investigation into this scandal affecting around 24 lakh students, said Congress leader Gaurav Gogoi at a press conference.

Gogoi criticized the BJP government for its indifference, noting that families have spent up to Rs 30 lakh based on promises from coaching and exam centers. He insisted that an unbiased inquiry cannot be managed by the NTA itself and called for the NTA chairperson’s removal. He also faulted PM Modi for ignoring the mental stress faced by students.

Gogoi assured that the INDIA bloc will support the students’ cause and use its strength to hold the government accountable. He credited Rahul Gandhi for promptly addressing the NEET issue after the Lok Sabha results.

Pointing out the June 4 results release, Gogoi implied it was timed to avoid scrutiny amid election discussions. He promised Congress would voice the concerns of 24 lakh youths in Parliament.

Additionally, Gogoi criticized Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan for denying allegations of a paper leak in NEET-UG. Pradhan claimed there was no evidence of such leaks and dismissed the corruption charges against the NTA as baseless. The SC is currently reviewing the matter, and the government has agreed to its decision, offering affected candidates the option to retake the exam on June 23.
