The Delhi BJP criticized the AAP government on Thursday over the water crisis, accusing it of failing to prevent wastage and misleading the public. Delhi BJP secretary and New Delhi MP Bansuri Swaraj stated at a press conference that people are being exploited by the tanker mafia due to the water shortage.

Earlier, police patrolled the Munak canal to curb tanker mafia activities, and Water Minister Atishi inspected a pipeline network in south Delhi. Atishi stated on X that additional district and sub-divisional magistrates are ensuring no water is wasted from pipeline leaks.

Swaraj accused Atishi of protecting the tanker mafia instead of taking action against them, highlighting her claim that stopping the mafia would not save much water. She criticized the AAP government for not addressing water wastage and misleading the public, urging officials to see residents’ struggles firsthand.

In response to Atishi’s letter to Lieutenant Governor V K Saxena seeking a probe into collusion between officials and the tanker mafia, Swaraj noted that the Delhi government faced the SC’s criticism on this issue but was shifting blame to officers. The SC directed the Delhi government to seek water from the Upper Yamuna River Board by 5 pm, as Himachal Pradesh reported no surplus water.
