The Indian Olympic Association (IOA) has pledged extensive support for the six wrestlers who have qualified for the Paris Olympics, responding to Vinesh Phogat’s request for additional training aid. The qualified wrestlers are Vinesh Phogat (50kg), Antim Panghal (53kg), Anshu Malik (57kg), Nisha Dahiya (68kg), Reetika Hooda (76kg), and Aman Sehrawat (57kg) in the men’s category.

In a statement on Monday, IOA president PT Usha emphasized the goal of this initiative is to ensure the wrestlers perform at their peak. By providing an extensive support team, we aim to ensure that our wrestlers have access to the best resources, enabling their peak performance. This decision aligns with our commitment to foster an environment where athletes can thrive, Usha said.

The IOA and the Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) are assembling a support team that includes coaches, physiotherapists, nutritionists, mental-conditioning coaches, and other essential staff to assist the wrestlers in their preparation for the Olympics.

WFI president Sanjay Singh assured that additional support staff will be provided to Vinesh Phogat, a gold medallist at the Asian Games, for her training in Paris. We will ensure that Vinesh and all our wrestlers receive the necessary support to excel and keep India’s flag flying, he stated.

The IOA added that this initiative is part of a larger mission to improve the training, preparation, and overall support available to Indian athletes, aiming to create a sustainable model of excellence to propel them to greater heights on the global stage.
