Sahith Theegala made an impressive climb in the third round of the Memorial, rising to a tied-seventh position with a 3-under 69, after being T-20 at the end of the second round. On the other hand, Akshay Bhatia (75) fell from T-7 to T-18.
World No. 1 Scottie Scheffler continued to dominate, leading at 10-under 206, four strokes ahead of Collin Morikawa (68), Adam Hadwin (72), and Sepp Straka (68). Scheffler had a mixed day with a triple bogey due to going out of bounds during his 1-under 71, but he also managed six birdies.
Despite the challenges, Scheffler expanded his lead to four shots over Morikawa, who played a flawless round of 68. Morikawa and Straka both had bogey-free rounds, while Hadwin’s even-par 72 included one eagle, a double bogey, a birdie, and a bogey.
Rory McIlroy (73) was tied for 11th, eight shots behind Scheffler, and Xander Schauffele (71) was in a group tied for fifth. Scheffler maintained control despite his mistakes on the challenging Muirfield Village Golf Club course, now just one round away from his fifth PGA Tour win this year.
Morikawa will join Scheffler in the final group, reminiscent of their pairing at the Masters. Defending champion Viktor Hovland struggled, ending the day with a round of 77, including a disastrous back nine, dropping to T-14 and nine shots off the lead.
