Even today, while several senior artists have gained recognition in cinema, many talented individuals remain unnoticed. Efforts are being made to bring such hidden gems into the spotlight. One such talent is Nagesh N., hailing from the village of Thirumalapalyad in Tumakuru district. From a young age, he dreamt of joining the film industry, inspired by the movies he watched on television. After completing his degree, he pursued a master’s in Counseling and Psychotherapy under the guidance of Ashok Pai.
This academic foundation paved the way for him in 2000, allowing him to work with industry stalwarts like Kashinath Arshivad, R.N. Jayagopal, P.H. Vishwanath, Girish Kasaravalli, Premakant, and Suchendra Prasad. Recognizing the importance of storytelling as well as editing and compilation, Nagesh began refining his skills. Since 2003, he has worked on hundreds of documentaries, advertisements, and serials, along with serving as a television editor for nine years.
In 2010, he contributed to the film Kothiraj as a writer, dialogue writer, and assistant director. He has since worked as an editor on about 24 films, including Rajatandra, and remains active in the industry.
Nagesh made his directorial debut with Gopalgandhi in 2019, handling the screenplay and dialogues as well. The film won the state award for Best Feature Film. His bilingual film Bail Kol was screened at the Kolkata International Film Festival. His 2023 film Kandeelu was selected for the 71st National Film Awards. For the real-life story-based film Beli Hoo, his dialogues won a Special Jury Award at the 2024 Bengaluru International Film Festival.
With 25 years of experience, Nagesh N. continues to focus on socially relevant stories, aiming to create films that challenge norms and inspire positive change.
