Communication is awaited by the Goa government from the Mhadei Water Management Authority (PRAWAH) regarding a joint inspection of the Mhadei stretch, as stated by Subhash Shirodkar, the Water Resources Minister of Goa. Shirodkar mentioned that the state government is keen on the joint inspection but hasn’t received any communication from PRAWAH despite offering four different dates. The availability of Karnataka and Maharashtra is unknown to Shirodkar. The Goa government had requested a joint inspection from PRAWAH and sent four letters regarding the matter.

Sources revealed that PRAWAH had asked Maharashtra, Karnataka, and Goa for information about the places to be inspected in response to a letter from Goa. Recently, Shirodkar cautioned Karnataka against resuming work to divert Mhadei water to the Malaprabha basin, stating that it could lead to a third contempt petition. He emphasized the vigilance of the Goa government in border areas and its readiness to take legal action if necessary. Mhadei originates in Karnataka and ends in Panaji, meeting the Arabian Sea. While the river spans 28.8 km in Karnataka, it stretches 81.2 km in Goa. Karnataka aims to construct dams on the river to divert water to its water-starved Malaprabha basin in the north.
