Must read

The Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) took strict action against Shifa Clinic, imposing a fine of Rs 20,000 for improper disposal of biomedical waste. Marshals from the BBMP discovered a significant amount of medical waste, including syringes and medication bottles, discarded beneath the flyover along Pipeline Road in Vijayanagar 2nd Stage.

Under the solid waste management rules, the BBMP is authorized to levy fines of up to Rs 1 lakh for littering or improper waste disposal, encompassing both public littering and mixing waste categories. Specific regulations govern bulk generators of biomedical waste, such as Shifa Clinic, mandating the disposal of hazardous waste through authorized vendors to safeguard sanitation workers, pedestrians, and motorists.

BBMP highlighted the importance of adhering to waste disposal regulations to maintain public health and cleanliness standards.

Another incident saw Banagiri Varasiddhi Vinayaka Temple in Ganesh Mandir also facing a fine of Rs 20,000 for dumping several plastic bags of waste in a public area.
