A Trinamool Congress (TMC) worker was killed and a Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader was seriously injured in separate incidents in Kolkata, according to police on Sunday.

Sanjeev Das, a TMC worker, was killed after a clash between two TMC factions in the Baguiati area. The altercation on Saturday night escalated into brick-batting, and Das was severely injured, later dying at the hospital. Police said he had 11 previous cases, including those related to the Arms Act. Thirteen people have been arrested in connection with his death, and an investigation is ongoing.

Das’s family accused local TMC workers of causing the fatal injuries, claiming he was beaten with rods after the brick-batting incident.

In another case, BJP leader Saraswati Sarkar filed a complaint alleging that TMC workers attacked her with sharp weapons while she and her team were putting up election banners in Anandapur, South Kolkata. She sustained severe head injuries. Amit Malviya, BJP’s IT cell head, criticized the state government for failing to ensure safety in West Bengal, sharing a video of Sarkar at a police station with her head bleeding.

Local BJP workers protested outside Anandapur police station, demanding action and criticizing the police’s handling of the case. A TMC leader denied party involvement but urged justice for those responsible.
