Ahemdabad

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh accused the Congress party of murdering democracy, highlighting its record of toppling state governments and imposing emergency rule. Speaking at a BJP press conference in Ahmedabad on Sunday, Singh claimed that Congress has used Article 356 to impose President’s rule 90 times out of 132, with former PM Indira Gandhi responsible for 50 such instances.

Singh criticized Congress leader Rahul Gandhi for his remarks about Rajas and Maharajas taking land and noted that most princely states joined India willingly after independence, except for a few that required intervention by Sardar Vallabh Bhai Patel.

Singh further accused Congress of promoting corruption during its 10-year rule, calling it an Olympics of corruption. He said that Congress’s emergency rule suspended citizens’ fundamental rights, highlighting its history of undemocratic practices.

Regarding BJP candidate Mukesh Dalal’s unopposed win in Surat, Singh pointed out that Congress has had 20 out of 28 unopposed MPs in the Lok Sabha, asking whether democracy was at risk then.

Singh also emphasized that PM Modi is likely to win a third term, illustrating the strength of Indian democracy. He portrayed BJP’s manifesto as a roadmap for a strong, developed India, while dismissing Congress’s manifesto as divisive and inspired by appeasement.
