The Trinamool Congress (TMC) has written to the Election Commission of India (ECI) opposing raids by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) and the National Security Guard (NSG) in Sandeshkhali, North 24 Parganas District, on Friday. These raids took place as the second phase of the Lok Sabha polls was ongoing. The TMC suspects that the central agencies might have planted weapons to defame the party.

During the raid, the CBI discovered a large number of firearms, explosives, and crude bombs at the home of a relative of a suspended Trinamool Congress leader. NSG commandos later joined the operation. In its complaint to the ECI, the TMC claimed these raids were politically motivated, aiming to tarnish the party’s image during the ongoing Lok Sabha elections.

The TMC questioned why the NSG commandos were involved and criticized the raids, noting that the polling was underway in three Lok Sabha constituencies in West Bengal. The party also alleged that the central agencies’ hyperactivity during election time was intended to spread fear among voters, which could affect the outcome of the elections. The Trinamool Congress urged the ECI to intervene and prevent central agencies from interfering with the election process, ensuring that elections remain free and fair.
