Foreign E-Commerce Players Circumventing Rules To Capture Indian Market: CAIT

New Delhi

Alleged irregularities in the probe against e-commerce giants Amazon and Flipkart, as well as their alleged links with mobile manufacturers, have been highlighted by Praveen Khandelwal, Secretary General of the Confederation of All India Traders (CAIT) and BJP candidate for the Lok Sabha. It is claimed that these foreign e-commerce players may be circumventing rules and laws to dominate the Indian market. Khandelwal expressed concerns about the collaboration between these companies and mobile manufacturers, suggesting it undermines the broader interests of the country and poses a threat to small traders’ livelihoods.

In February, the CAIT wrote to the Competition Commission of India (CCI), urging urgent action in the Delhi Vyapar Mahasangh case, which involves alleged anti-competitive practices by Amazon and Flipkart. The CAIT emphasized the importance of the case’s outcome for the survival of countless retailers and their families.

No immediate comment was available from Amazon or Flipkart regarding the reported findings by the CCI. Khandelwal, who is contesting from the Chandni Chowk Lok Sabha constituency, has been vocal about what he perceives as persistent issues with foreign e-commerce companies operating in India. The retail traders’ body has urged the CCI to prioritize the case and impose penalties on Flipkart and Amazon if found guilty of illegal activities.
