France is set to collaborate with India on the creation of the Yuge Yugeen Bharat National Museum in Delhi, which is expected to be the largest museum in the world. A French delegation, led by Aurélien Lechevallier, Director General for Global Affairs and Cultural and Economic Diplomacy, recently visited the museum’s site to discuss the partnership’s next steps, according to a French Embassy statement.

The new museum, which will cover over 1.17 lakh square meters, will be located in Delhi’s North Block and South Block and include 950 rooms across a basement and three storeys. It will feature eight thematic segments that will depict India’s history spanning over 5,000 years.

The French Embassy in India announced on X (formerly Twitter) that Lechevallier and a team of experts met with Indian officials, including Union Cultural Secretary Govind Mohan, to discuss France’s role as a knowledge partner in the museum’s development. This meeting was part of the broader agreement on cultural cooperation between the two countries, signed in 2020.

France’s contribution will cover areas such as museum management, artifact conservation, and visitor experience enhancement. The partnership is part of the Indo-French Horizon 2047 Roadmap, which seeks to foster cooperation between the two nations.

Lechevallier also participated in the Coalition for Disaster Resilient Infrastructure (CDRI) meeting during his visit. He was announced as the new Co-chair of CDRI’s Governing Council for the 2024-2026 term, highlighting France’s ongoing commitment to disaster resilience and environmental sustainability in collaboration with India.
