The DMK party in Tamil Nadu has decided to promote Udhayanidhi Stalin, the state’s Minister for Youth Welfare and Sports Development, to Deputy Chief Minister. A senior DMK leader told sources that the announcement will be made after the Lok Sabha election results on June 4.
Udhayanidhi played a crucial role in the Lok Sabha campaign, traveling 8,465 kilometers across Tamil Nadu, the most among DMK leaders. He visited all 39 constituencies, speaking at public meetings, meeting party cadres, and criticizing the BJP and PM Modi.
LK Shanmugham, a senior DMK leader from Chennai Central, described Udhayanidhi as the mascot of the campaign. He boosted the party’s morale by traveling extensively and delivering short, engaging speeches. S Duraimurugan, Tamil Nadu’s Minister for Water Resources, also praised Udhayanidhi for his connection with the public and effective one-liners.
Udhayanidhi, who leads the DMK’s youth wing, is the son of Chief Minister MK Stalin. After the Lok Sabha elections, the DMK is expected to formalize his role as Deputy Chief Minister.
