In a bid to enhance electoral participation ahead of the Lok Sabha elections, doctors in Bengaluru took the lead by organizing a voteathon in Indiranagar on Sunday Evening. The initiative aimed to raise awareness among the public, especially working professionals, about the importance of exercising their franchise.
Led by Rajasekhara Jaka, President of the Surgical Society of Bangalore, the voteathon traversed a four-kilometer route, covering key areas like 100 Ft Road, Sony Circle, and Chinmaya Mission Hospital. Jaka highlighted the significance of voter turnout, citing Bengaluru’s comparatively lower participation rate of 53% during the previous Assembly elections despite a statewide turnout of 73%.
Echoing Jaka’s sentiments, Muni Reddy, Secretary of the Surgical Society of Bengaluru, mentioned the responsibility of citizens to elect deserving representatives by casting their votes. He noted the increasing presence of professionals in Indiranagar and stressed the need for active electoral engagement.
Sampath Kumar, another participant in the voteathon, highlighted the constitutional privilege bestowed upon citizens to exercise their voting rights. He underscored the importance of voting in selecting capable leader.
