The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has called for urgent action from Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and Health Minister Dinesh Gundurao to address the alarming increase in cholera cases across the state.
AAP City President Satish Kumar, speaking at a press conference in Bengaluru on Saturday, highlighted the need for a meeting of district commissioners under the leadership of the chief minister to implement precautionary measures and prevent further spread of the disease.
Highlighting the concerning statistics, Kumar pointed out that while previous years saw relatively low numbers of cholera cases, this year has seen a significant surge, with 109 reported cases already. He also noted that surrounding districts of Bengaluru have reported 6-7 cases, indicating a widespread issue.
Kumar attributed the rise in cases to various factors, including poor maintenance of water infrastructure leading to contamination of drinking water with sewage. He stressed the urgent need for cleanliness in drinking water reservoirs to curb the spread of the disease.
The AAP has been vocal about the water crisis in Bengaluru for the past six months, criticizing both the ruling and opposition parties for politicizing the issue instead of addressing the root causes. Kumar urged the government to prioritize public health over political discussions and take immediate steps to raise awareness and implement preventive measures against cholera.
