North Korea and Russia held the 11th meeting of their intergovernmental committee on economic cooperation in Pyongyang, focusing on enhancing bilateral ties in various sectors. The meeting, which took place on Tuesday, was attended by Yun Jong-ho, North Korea’s External Economic Relations Minister, and Alexander Kozlov, Russia’s Minister for Natural Resources, state media reported on Wednesday.

The discussions centered on evaluating the progress of agreements from their previous meeting and exploring new avenues for cooperation. Key areas of focus included energy, agriculture, science and technology, health, and tourism. The meeting was part of the ongoing bilateral cooperation between the two nations, with this session marking the seventh since the committee’s establishment in 1996.

In a notable diplomatic gesture, North Korean leader Kim Jong-un personally met with Kozlov, highlighting the significance of their relationship. This marked the first time a North Korean leader had met a Russian head of the committee. Kim’s meeting with Kozlov reflected his interest in advancing economic exchanges and emphasized North Korea’s strong ties with Russia.

The meeting signals a continued push for deeper economic and technological collaboration between North Korea and Russia, especially as both countries face international pressure.
