BJP District President Sathish Kumpala said that Union Minister Smriti Irani will campaign for Dakshina Kannada BJP candidate Capt Brijesh Chowta on Friday, talking to media persons. He said that the national and state level leaders are likely to take part in the campaign for the BJP candidate.
The name of Prime Minister Narendra Modi is given to the state committee as a star campaigner, he said. However, any confirmation on star campaigners is yet to be received.
Chowta has reached out to all nine mandalas, 61 mahashakti kendras, and 495 shakti kendras in the district. Booth-level meetings are in progress. After filing the nominations, the booth-level sampark programme will be strengthened further. Maha Sampark Abhiyan (door-to-door campaign) will be held on April 21.
To a query on Sri Narayana Guru Vichara Vedike (SNGV), State President Sathyajith Surathkal declared that SNGV will support Billava candidates in Lok Sabha elections irrespective of the party affiliation, Kumpala said, he has expressed his opinion. Sathyajith is still with BJP, he said, adding that he will discuss with the senior leaders on his statement and take a call. BJP is a party that believes in nationalism and takes all, irrespective of caste and creed, along with it, he said. He added that he is also a Billava, and was given a ticket to contest from the Mangalore assembly constituency. The party has fielded Kota Srinivas Poojari this time from the Udupi-Chikmagalur Lok Sabha constituency, he said.
