A graduate from NITK Surathkal’s 1981 batch has launched two innovative sustainability projects at his alma mater, focusing on water management (AquaWISE) and waste management (BioGas Optimization). The projects, backed by Padmanand Warrier, an NITK alumnus and creator of Warrier HEART, aim to integrate cutting-edge AI technology to enhance campus sustainability.
Warrier, who founded Warrier HEART to drive responsible innovation, explained that his vision goes beyond digital transformation and market growth. He emphasized that technology should serve humanity, empathy, and the environment. “Warrier HEART honors the foundational ‘mothers’ that sustain us—our parents, our alma mater, our country, and our Earth,” he said.
The projects are a tribute to his parents, UK Warrier and Bhagyalakshmi Warrier, and aim to contribute to NITK, one of India’s premier educational institutions. The two key initiatives are AquaWISE, focused on water management, and a biogas project aimed at converting food waste into eco-friendly gas.
The biogas project, initiated by the 1981 batch of NITK, utilizes IoT sensors to monitor methane levels, pH, and temperature. AI and machine learning algorithms optimize production and operational efficiency, making the project a significant step toward sustainable waste management at the campus.
