Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan highlighted the historical origins of the slogans ‘Bharat Mata Ki Jai’ and ‘Jai Hind’, stating they were first raised by Muslims on Monday. He questioned whether the Sangh Parivar would continue to use these slogans, considering their Muslim origins.

Addressing a rally in a Muslim-majority district in north Kerala, Vijayan emphasized the significant contributions of Muslims in India’s history and independence movement. He cited examples such as Azimullah Khan, a Muslim who coined the slogan ‘Bharat Mata Ki Jai’, and diplomat Abid Hasan, who first raised ‘Jai Hind’.

Vijayan also mentioned Dara Shikoh, son of Mughal Emperor Shahjahan, who translated over 50 Upanishads into Persian, spreading Indian texts globally. He urged Sangh Parivar leaders advocating for Muslim extradition to Pakistan to understand this historical context.

Highlighting Muslims’ crucial role in India’s freedom movement, Vijayan aimed to foster inclusivity and challenge divisive narratives. The rally was part of the CPI(M)’s ongoing protests against the controversial Citizenship (Amendment) Act (CAA).
