Former chairman of Mangaluru Urban Development Authority (MUDA) Ravishankar Mijar, alleged that the bribery case reported at the MUDA office is a testimony to the corruption in the Congress government in the state.
Mijar told media persons that the arrest of MUDA Commissioner Mansoor Ali and a broker, for accepting a bribe of Rs 25 lakh on Saturday, by the Lokayukta stands as a testimony to the corruption in the Congress government.
Corruption and bribery are synonymous with Congress. There were several allegations against Mansoor Ali from the day he took charge as the commissioner of MUDA. There are allegations that the Congress government appoints officials by accepting money from them and intentionally prevents people from having access to public services, thereby creating opportunities for corruption and the entry of middlemen, Mijar alleged.
Explaining the functioning of the MUDA office during his tenure as Chairman of the authority, Mijar said that he had opened a public helpdesk in the office. While the help desk is non-functional now, the office has turned into a haven for middlemen. The Commissioner had sought Rs 25 lakh to approve Transferable Development Rights for the land that a person had handed over to the government, he said.
