New Delhi
Arvinder Singh Lovely, the Delhi Congress chief, expressed concern over the freezing of Congress accounts, suggesting it undermines India’s democratic principles. He emphasized that freezing accounts and arresting elected officials prior to elections raises doubts about the fairness of the electoral process.
Questioning the timing of the account freeze, Lovely pointed out that it occurred just before the announcement of election dates, along with the arrest of Delhi’s CM and a previous incident involving the Jharkhand CM. He highlighted the lack of a level playing field for opposition parties.
To address these concerns and uphold democracy, the INDIA bloc, comprising the Congress and AAP, announced a large-scale rally at Ramlila Maidan on March 31. The rally aims to mobilize support and rally against perceived threats to democracy.
Prominent leaders from various opposition parties will participate in the rally, emphasizing the collective effort to safeguard India’s democratic values. The Congress has previously accused the BJP of freezing its accounts ahead of the Lok Sabha polls, which they believe hampers their election preparations. Sonia Gandhi, Chairperson of the Congress Parliamentary Party, condemned these actions as part of a deliberate attempt by Prime Minister Modi to financially weaken the Congress, labeling it as unprecedented and undemocratic.
