New Delhi

Amid discussions about his ability to fulfill his duties as Delhi’s Chief Minister while in the custody of the Enforcement Directorate (ED), Arvind Kejriwal issued his first order since being detained. The directive focused on ensuring adequate water supply in the national capital and was communicated to Delhi Minister Atishi, responsible for the water portfolio, through a memorandum.

In his letter written in Hindi, CM Kejriwal expressed concern about reports of water and sewage problems in certain areas of Delhi, particularly with the approaching summer season. He instructed officials to arrange for an adequate number of water tankers where shortages were reported and urged them to take immediate action to resolve public grievances. Kejriwal also suggested seeking cooperation from the Lieutenant Governor if necessary.

Kejriwal was placed in ED custody until March 28 on allegations of involvement in formulating a favorable excise policy and demanding kickbacks from liquor businessmen, accusations he denies, attributing them to political manipulation by the BJP-led government. The ED considers him the main conspirator in the case, alleging collusion with AAP ministers and leaders. Despite Kejriwal’s legal team’s request for an expedited hearing, the High Court declined to hear the matter on Sunday.
