The BJP accused the Congress of spreading misinformation regarding the attachment of its bank accounts, asserting that only a few of its accounts have been attached, not frozen, by the Income Tax department due to outstanding tax dues. BJP spokesperson Sambit Patra clarified that these accounts remain operational, allowing deposits and withdrawals, except for Rs 125 crore, which has been attached.
According to Patra, media reports suggest that the Congress holds approximately Rs 1,000 crore across multiple bank accounts, established with several PAN numbers, allegedly violating its own party constitution. Additionally, Patra claimed that the Congress possesses fixed assets worth Rs 500 crore.
Patra criticized Rahul Gandhi’s statement about the Congress lacking funds even for train tickets, highlighting Gandhi’s frequent use of chartered planes. He demanded a technical answer from Gandhi on the matter.
Furthermore, Patra accused senior Congress leaders, including Mallikarjun Kharge and Sonia Gandhi, of seeking public sympathy through misleading statements, anticipating defeat in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.
Regarding the Congress’s allegations of financial constraints imposed by the Modi government, Patra ridiculed the notion of a level playing field, suggesting that those engaged in corruption cannot demand fairness. He urged the Congress to focus on developmental issues rather than indulging in accusations.
