Kalaburagi
Farmers in the Kalyana Karnataka region, reeling from crop losses due to excessive rainfall and floods, will convene a roundtable meeting on November 4 at 11 a.m. at Kannada Bhavan in Kalaburagi city. The meeting, organized under the leadership of farmer leaders and representatives of various organizations, aims to prepare a strategy for demanding compensation from the Central and State governments. Chandu Padhav, president of the farmers’ association, urged maximum participation from farmers across the region.
Speaking at a press conference on Sunday at Patrika Bhavan, the leaders highlighted the disparity in relief allocation by the Central government under MDRF and SDRF schemes. Karnataka has received only ₹385 crore, whereas neighboring Maharashtra was allocated ₹1,559 crore. In Kalaburagi, Bidar, and Yadgiri districts, heavy rains and floods in rivers including Bhima, Bennehore, Gandhori Nala, and Amarja have caused widespread devastation, affecting 12.5 lakh hectares of agricultural and horticultural land, in addition to homes, livestock, and property.
The leaders demanded that BJP MPs, Union ministers, and local legislators press the Central government to declare the recent rainfall as a natural disaster and release adequate compensation. They warned that if relief is delayed, farmers will be forced to protest. They also called on the State government to fulfill its moral responsibility and immediately release the previously announced compensation.
Prominent participants at the press meet included Shantappa Patil, Shaukat Ali Alur, Sunil Maruti Manapade, Somasekhar Singe, and Vitthal Poojari, among others. The discussion emphasized urgent action to support farmers and ensure timely relief.
