MLC Manjunath Bhandary, under the aegis of Grama Swaraj Trust, will organize Hombelaku, a sports and cultural meet for elected representatives and staff of Gram Panchayats and Urban Local Bodies (ULBs) in Dakshina Kannada and Udupi districts, at Sahyadri College Ground in Adyar on March 2.
Bhandary told media persons that Legislative Council Chairman Basavaraj Horatti and Legislative Assembly Speaker UT Khader will be participating in the programme. In fact, MLC Kota Shrinivas Poojary, opposition leader in the council, has been organizing sports meets for elected representatives at Kota in Udupi for the last eight years. Elected representatives of Gram Panchayats and ULBs in Dakshina Kannada also have been demanding a similar event. Hence, they decided to hold an event for elected representatives from 13 assembly constituencies that come under my limits. The event is likely to be attended by nearly 4,000 delegates, he said.
The MLC said there will be individual and group competitions. The travel expenses of participants will be borne by the Gram Panchayats. The first, second and third prize winners of March past competition will get Rs 50,000, 25,000 and Rs 10,000, respectively, he said.
