Indian and US defence officials met in New Delhi on Tuesday to discuss important matters related to defence procurement and to reaffirm their commitment to strengthening the strategic partnership between the two nations, the Ministry of Defence said.

In a post on X, the ministry shared that Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defence (South & Southeast Asia), US Department of Defence, Dr. Andrew Byers, met Joint Secretary (Maritime & Systems Acquisition) Dinesh Kumar. Both sides held detailed talks on defence procurement issues and agreed to continue working closely to advance the India-US defence relationship.

Earlier, on August 14, Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal had highlighted the growing India-US defence ties during his weekly briefing. He described the defence partnership as a key pillar of bilateral relations, strengthened by foundational agreements and expanding cooperation across several areas. Jaiswal also mentioned the upcoming visit of a US Defence Policy team to Delhi in mid-August and the 21st edition of the joint military exercise ‘Yudh Abhyas,’ scheduled later this month in Alaska. He further said that preparations are underway to hold the India-US 2+2 intersessional meeting towards the end of August.

In July, senior defence officials from both nations held talks during Exercise Talisman Sabre 2025, focusing on military coordination, regional security, and operational readiness in the Indo-Pacific. The discussions emphasised joint efforts to boost cooperation and maintain peace and stability in the region, the Integrated Defence Staff had said.

The latest meeting adds to the series of engagements aimed at expanding defence ties between India and the US, with both sides committed to deeper collaboration in procurement, joint exercises, and strategic cooperation.
