India continued its impressive show at the Asian Shooting Championships as shooters clinched medals in both senior and junior categories. The highlight was the bronze medal won by Saurabh Chaudhary and teenager Suruchi Inder Singh in the 10m air pistol mixed team event.
The Indian pair defeated Chinese Taipei’s Liu Heng-Yu and Hsieh Hsiang-Chen 17-9 in the bronze medal match, adding another podium finish to India’s tally. Their victory came just a day after Manu Bhaker secured bronze in the women’s 10m air pistol event, showing India’s depth in pistol shooting.
In qualification, Suruchi scored 292 while Chaudhary shot 286, giving them a combined 578 to place fifth. Six teams advanced, with China and South Korea reaching the gold medal match. China eventually won 16-12, while India and Iran settled for bronze.
Suruchi, already a four-time World Cup gold medalist this season, impressed with her consistency. She started qualification with a perfect 100, stumbled with a 94, but bounced back strongly with 98. In the bronze match, her accuracy was crucial, hitting seven shots in the 10-ring, six above 10.4, ensuring India sealed the 16-point target.
India’s juniors also delivered. Vanshika Chaudhary and Gavin Anthony claimed bronze in the junior 10m air pistol mixed team event after beating South Korea’s Kim Yejin and Kim Dooyeon 16-14. Earlier, they finished second in qualification with 578, Gavin’s 296 standing out.
At the end of Day 2, India leads the medal tally with 14 medals—six gold, five silver, and three bronze—showcasing dominance in the championship.
