The Chelyadka bridge, a structure constructed during the British-era on the Puttur-Bettampady road, gets submerged every monsoon, causing inconvenience to the public as well as motorists. With the government sanctioning Rs 3 crore, the old bridge will be replaced with a new one soon, to put an end to the woes of the public.
According to history, Chelyadka bridge is almost 100 years old, and for several decades, there has been a persistent demand from residents to construct another bridge that will free them from the inundation during monsoon, which would turn some of the villages into islands.Spokesperson for Puttur MLA Ashok Kumar Rai told  that recently the MLA had visited the spot, after which it was decided to construct a bridge on priority. All these years, the funds could not be sanctioned because the road was not upgraded. The road came under the PWD recently. The government has sanctioned Rs 3 crore, and work will commence at the earliest, the spokesperson shared.
The bridge, which is about 6ft above the water level, is infamously known as the Mulugu Sethuve or submerged bridge.
