Sevilla FC has successfully negotiated a loan deal with Manchester United for the services of 20-year-old French-born Tunisian international midfielder, Hannibal Mejbr. The loan agreement extends until the end of the season, with an option for Sevilla to make the transfer permanent. Hannibal Mejbr, who has already gained international football experience by representing Tunisia at the 2022 World Cup, brings versatility and skill to Sevilla’s midfield. The midfielder’s loan arrival comes at a crucial time for Sevilla FC, as they navigate a challenging phase in La Liga with just one win in their last five matches and find themselves hovering just above the relegation zone. Born in Ivry-sur-Seine, France, Mejbr’s football journey began in the academy of Paris FC at the age of nine. He attracted attention from major European clubs, eventually joining AS Monaco’s academy. In 2019, at the age of 16, he made a significant move to Manchester United, where he progressed through the ranks, showcasing his talents in both the under-18 and under-23 teams. Mejbr’s breakthrough came during the 2020/21 season, earning him a first-team debut under manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer. His performances in the Premier League 2 and the EFL Trophy caught the eye, leading to his involvement with the senior squad. After making appearances for Manchester United’s first team, Mejbr spent the 2022/23 season on loan at Birmingham City in the Championship, accumulating valuable game time and contributing with goals and assists. His recent loan spell with Manchester United in the current season saw him play ten games and score once under manager Erik ten Hag. Internationally, Mejbr initially represented France at youth levels before opting to play for the Tunisian national team, his parents’ homeland. He participated in the 2021 FIFA Arab Cup, where Tunisia finished as runners-up, and featured in the 2022 FIFA World Cup group stage match against Denmark.
