The forest department has safely captured a huge elephant that was unconscious despite being injected with anesthesia.
A team of forest department managed to arrest the large-sized lone male wild elephant, identified by the name Tanneer, in Chikkote village of Belur taluk.
After starting the search at five o’clock in the morning, the forest department staff found the forest area and started the operation at ten o’clock. Usually wilde beests are rendered unconscious within ten minutes of the anesthetic injection. But this huge, strong elephant Tanneer ran for more than an hour after getting an anesthetic injection. The forest department team followed it cautiously with all the livestock and waited till the lone elephant fell unconscious in the coffee plantation.
After struggling with the eight ranchers, the forest guards dragged the captured lone male wild elephant to the road and then fitted a radio collar to it.
