The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has announced that FASTags with incomplete KYC (Know Your Customer) will face deactivation or blacklisting by banks after January 31. This move is part of NHAI’s efforts to enhance the efficiency of the electronic toll collection system, ensuring seamless movement at toll plazas. The initiative comes in response to recent reports highlighting the issuance of multiple FASTags for a single vehicle and the distribution of FASTags without proper KYC, violating the Reserve Bank of India’s (RBI) mandate. Issued under the ‘One Vehicle, One FASTag’ principle, the NHAI aims to discourage users from employing a single FASTag for multiple vehicles or associating multiple FASTags with a particular vehicle. To prevent inconvenience, users must ensure the completion of KYC for their latest FASTag. Only the most recent FASTag account will remain active, according to the NHAI statement. For assistance or queries, FASTag users can contact the toll plazas nearest to them or reach out to the toll-free customer care number of their respective issuer banks. Additionally, the NHAI emphasized the proper fixation of FASTags on vehicle windshields to avoid unnecessary delays at toll plazas and ensure a smoother toll payment process.
