Greater Noida

As land prices soar around Jewar airport in Gautam Budh Nagar, Uttar Pradesh, a recent case exposes fraudulent activities in land transactions. On January 12, Sector-63 Noida police arrested a 32-year-old man, Aqil, for embezzling Rs 24 crore by selling non-existent land near Jewar airport.

Aqil prepared fake land documents and defrauded four individuals from Noida and Ghaziabad. The victims were introduced to Aqil by Sachin Bhati and Ravindra Sharma, who claimed to be part of prominent landlord and political families in Jewar. They promised 100 to 200 bighas of agricultural land near the under-construction airport. The victims paid Rs 24 crore in 2022, receiving fake revenue documents in return. When they sought copies of the land transfer in revenue records, the accused evaded the requests and even made the victims sign additional papers as witnesses.

Subsequent investigations revealed that the purchased land did not exist, and all documents were forged. The accused withdrew cash from bank accounts opened with fraudulent documents. When victims demanded their money back, they faced threats from the scammers. The police have arrested Aqil and are searching for 15 other individuals involved in this land fraud case.
